Robert Eitner (initials: “R. E.”), praised this series of études:
„…Doppelte Achtung, wenn eine Dame so Vorzügliches, fast möchte man sagen Mächtiges leistet. Groß sind jedenfalls diese Studien in jeder Beziehung, wie sie auch glücklich vermeiden, ein Motiv todt zu hetzen, sodaß dem Spieler überall mehr frisch gezeichnete, interessant gestaltete Charakterbilder entgegentreten, was ja eigentlich jede Etude sein soll. Diese Studien verlangen schon fertige Spieler...”

These studies are certainly great in every respect, as they also happily avoid over-exposing any motif, so that the player is constantly confronted with freshly drawn, interestingly shaped character sketches, which is what every étude should actually be.
